This is the Bukit Bangkirai National Park, also known as Shorea Hills, which is an area located in East Kalimantan, East Borneo, and was created to conserve the tropical trees endemic to the island of Borneo, particularly those in East Kalimantan Province.
How to get to Bangkirai?
To reach this beautiful place you must pass through a road full of potholes, is approximately 58 kilometers from Balikpapan, an hour and a half from Samarinda or Tenggarong and 20 kilometers from the district of Samboja.
What can be done in Bangkirai
Bangkirai is a large area of 1500 hectares for the protection of trees of Bangkirai, scientific name Shorea laevis, Keruing trees, scientific name Dipterocarpus Comutus, Jelutung trees, scientific name Dyera Constulata, Kempas trees, scientific name Koompassia malaccensis, rattan scientific name Calamus sp.
This is a tropical rainforest where the Bengkirai tree and other endemic tropical trees predominate, the Bengkirai trees are between 40 and 50 meters high and have a diameter of 2.3 meters, the average age of the tree is about 150 years.
There are canopy bridges made of 64 meters of steel, which connect five large Bangkirai or Shorea Laevis trees as it is also called, these bridges are built 30 meters above the ground.

You can walk through the jungle with the purpose of enjoying the canopy bridge, there is the Canopy bridge which was the first one built in Indonesia, the second in Asia and the eighth in the world.
In this place apart from being a beautiful canopy forest, it is the natural habitat of many species of animals, such as: the gibbon, the Hornbill, the Asian Paradise Fly hunter, the red leaf eating monkey and other endemic species of the fauna that belongs to Borneo.
You can also see an ecosystem of peat bogs and granite rocks this causes a dry environment and this makes the trees different from others that are in the place and in the late afternoon you can see Hornbills of East Kalimantan.
This park is located in the rainforest, has log cabins where you can spend the night, with a small restaurant, bathrooms, walks in the jungle that are covered with weeds, a pool, and other services.
