Pure Goa Lawah Temple

Pure Goa Lawah, known as the Temple of the Bat Cave, is a Balinese or pure Hindu temple located in Klungkung, Bali, Indonesia. Pure Goa Lawah is often included among Sad Kahyangan Jagad, or the six sanctuaries of the world, the six most sacred places of worship of Bali.

The Bat Cave Temple

Goa Lawah is located in Pesinggahan village, Dawan district, which borders the Klungkung and Karangasem regencies. This landmark is one of the first stops on tours to Candidasa and other eastern regions within the Karangasem regency.the Goa Lawah Temple is a large complex on the north side of the Jalan Raya Goa Lawah main road.

The anniversary of the great temple of Goa Lawah takes place every 210 days in the cycle of the Balinese calendar.Pawukon of an Anggara Kasih Medangsia on Tuesday, the same anniversary day as the Uluwatu Temple. With its constant flow of pilgrims and visitors, the temple is well managed and maintained.

The interior of the Pure Goa Lawah Temple

Two large banyan trees stand out at the main entrance of Goa Lawah. Upon entering the central courtyard of the temple, you will see three bale pavilions at three corners of the complex. These bales are usually where fruit offerings are placed and where gamelan bands play during the main ceremonies.

In the centerpiece are ancient shrines that have resisted the hordes of bats nectar (Eonycteris spelaea) singing in a frenzy around and behind the shrines at the entrance to the cave. It is the mythical dragon which is believed to keep the cosmos in balance.

A place for deep meditation by priests, despite seeming impossible to do in the middle of chanting, with the opening of the hollow cave amplifying the noise.However, people believe that the constant natural heights help in their thought focus.
