Canggu is a small village located on the beach about 20 minutes north of Seminyak. is still largely a rural area away from the beaches, but is developing rapidly.
Its beaches have dark grey or black sand and are not appreciated by tourists for swimming and sunbathing, but offer some challenging surfing spots.
Much of the area is undulating and quiet with the rice fields that characterize much of south central Bali. Its temples are famous for their structural features and the importance of the rituals and ceremonies performed there.

The most visited temple in Canggu is the Tanah Lot installed in a rock formation, meaning land in the sea in the Balinese language. Located in Tabanan, the temple sits on a large coastal rock that has been continuously shaped over the years by the ocean tide.
Its design is attributed to Dang Hyang Nirartha during the 16th century who after spending two days in the village observing the great rock, felt that this was a sacred place to worship the gods. The main deity of the temple is Dewa Baruna or Bhatara Segara , God of the sea or the power of the sea.at the base of the rocky island, it is believed that poisonous sea serpents protect the temple from evil spirits and intruders.the temple is supposedly protected by a giant snake.
Batu Bolong beach is the most popular beach in the Canggu area, and there is almost always a good mix of locals. There are sun loungers, umbrellas, beer vendors and you can rent surfboards for a quite moderate price.
