They are based on a wax-resistant dyeing technique which is applied to all fabrics, or fabrics made with this technique originated in Indonesia. Batik is made by drawing dots and lines of the resistor with a tool called sput canting or printing the resistor with a copper stamp called bumper.

History of batik fabrics.
This type of dyeing to resist the wax fabric, is a form of ancient art. Already existed in Egypt in the fourth century BC, where it was used to wrap mummies. The clothes were soaked in wax and scratched with a pencil.
In Asia, the technique was practiced in China during the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD), and in India and Japan during the Nara Period (645-794 AD). In Africa, it was originally practiced by the Yoruba tribe in Nigeria, Soninke and Wolof in Senegal, however, this African version uses manioc starch or rice paste or clay as a resistor instead of beeswax.
Batik clothing
The garments in which they usually wear this type of technique are from small turbans to add a complement to their outfit, a «selendang» is a large shawl that women use to transport their children or shopping, traditional blouses called kebaya, which are complemented by a corset or «kemban».
But there is a garment that could be the most popular one as it is the «sarong». It is like a kind of skirt both for men and for women , a big piece of rectangular batik. To wear it you just have to wrap it around your legs and tie it at the waist.
