Within the great archipelago that makes up the Indonesian state, there is a very small but interesting island Separated from the island of Bali by about 700 meters and which you can access both by water and land vehicles, by virtue of the existence of a road bridge that connects the two islands. It has an approximate length of almost 3Km by 1 km wide compared to others, is much less visited by tourists despite its proximity to the great Bali. Formerly, pilgrims from different temples in the villages of southern Denpasar moved on foot during low tide to the temple of Sakenan.
They carry their family relics and sacred objects through marshes and mangroves from Pesanggaran. Near the main gates of Benoa port to the western shores of Serangan, during the high tide, groups of native stabilizers called «janggolan» carry people across the waves.

From an administrative point of view the Serangan Island depends on the Balinese capital Denpasar, which is beneficial for the budget. To date retains much of its local tradition and has a long history of tourism, being considered more for time than volume of sightseeing, but is only 20 minutes from Kuta and closer to the airport as well.

Serangan Island is also known as «Turtle Island» due to the permanent nesting of green sea turtles. It is home to the Sakenan Temple on the western end of the island. It\’s nice to share with the locals who are dedicated to the fishing industry on the island, watch the turtle hatcheries, enjoy their surfing and windsurfing spots and the famous white tip reef sharks. All in all, a place worth knowing.
