The Balangan beach , known locally as Pantai Balangan, is one of the most picturesque and popular beaches in Bali, with a half kilometre stretch of golden sand bordered by vegetated limestone cliffs and a reef with one of the longest left-handed breaks on the island.
This surfing paradise attracts wave lovers from all over the world, who enjoy most of Bukit’s southwest coast along with the sister breaks of Balangan from Dreamland, Impossibles, Padang Padang, Suluban and Uluwatu further south.
Balangan Beach
The Balangan Beach shares the same neighbourhood as Dreamland, just one kilometre away and separated by a small promontory that serves as the famous 15th hole of the New Kuta golf course, from where players get the best bird’s eye view over both beaches and the ocean horizon.
The coast can be reached by the namesake Jalan Pantai Balangan, a journey of approximately 7 kilometres west of the Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park, and 20 kilometres south of the main centre of Kuta, preferably by taxi, or ask the concierge at the hotel where you are staying.
Balangan Beach in Bali City
Getting there is easy thanks to clearly marked signs with names and instructions. The beach is only a dozen steps from the cliff, but it’s a good idea to climb the hills beforehand and take a look from the point of view of great panoramic angles.
The golden sand meets the vast blue ocean, and you can see surfers having fun at the breaks from afar. Those in the picture will love to linger in the spectacular sunsets from above.
Balangan Beach the golden sand beach
On the Balangan Beach non-surfers can simply enjoy the view and the coastline, with beach beds with umbrellas available for rent, or they can simply sunbathe and bury themselves in the soft sand. During low tide, the reef near the limestone cliffs reveals exotic rock formations covered with algae and pools, offering even more spectacular sunset angles.
